The BIFF aims to promote and support independent filmmaking from around the world and provide opportunities for independent filmmakers to have their work screened at great red carpet-style venues to a passionate audience of film professionals, film students, journalists and the general public.

It's our 16th edition this year, and we're back at the British Museum for March, 2025. Have a look at the lineup below!

THE MERMAID WIFE (by The Apex Singers)

4m | Lydia Wonham

Beneath the serene hills of the Shetland Islands, mermaids dwell in underwater palaces made of coral and pearl. One moonlit night, as they danced on the shore, a Shetlander stumbled upon them and stole a mermaid’s seal skin, trapping her in the human world. Desperate, she was forced to marry him, living a cold and distant life while secretly longing for the sea.

SOLA

11m | Clàudia Orriols

A quiet housewife who plots a discreet escape, a box of paintings that is nowhere to be found and a husband who thinks he is the master of the house. SOLA is the cautious desire for freedom against a ticking clock, the last bit of faith to find what one is looking for.

NERVOUS ELLIE

7m | David Yorke

Ellie, new to dating and painfully shy, struggles to control her nerves during a date with Danni, resulting in some unexpecting and shocking results.
